How did you feel about hybrid work before the pandemic?

Prior to the pandemic, hybrid work wasn’t something I thought about as a long-term program. Our use of meeting software both internally and with our partners was low, so connectivity presented a challenge. Since the pandemic, my view on hybrid work has completely changed. Meeting software is used daily and we have learned that there are many types of meetings that are equally or more productive when done virtually. The need for in-person collaboration is still important, and we're seeing the hybrid model makes those in-person collaborations intentional and meaningful.

What impacts have you seen hybrid work have on our workforce + organization?

Hybrid work has allowed our employees to have choice. An employee may start their day at home, head to a client site and then to the office to finish out their day. The stress of getting into the office by 8 AM is gone and I believe our employees have become more efficient and productive by planning their day based on their calendars and not a traditional 8-5 philosophy.

Was there anything that surprised you as a result of the new work policy?

I’ve been most surprised by what drives our employees into the office. Client meetings and presentations were anticipated. But, lunch with co-workers or meeting up to work next to a teammate for the day are the unexpected interactions that reinforce why the office exists and our need for connection with each other outside a [Microsoft] Teams call. Our teams genuinely enjoy being together and that really shines through with hybrid work.

What is important for business owners and C-suite to know about shifting to a hybrid policy?

Trust your team and have good scorecard numbers tracking the pulse of the business.

How do companies make the transition easy for their workforce?

Clear communication on your new hybrid policy and show leadership support.

What do you see as the biggest benefits of hybrid work for organizations?

Increased efficiency, productivity, and employee well-being.
